The truth about modern funerals:

Why alkaline hydrolysis is getting all the attention
When it comes to death, most people think there are only two options: burial or cremation. Maybe even a combination of the two — cremation followed by burial of the ashes.

But what if neither of those options is right for you?
Perhaps it’s the high cost. Perhaps it’s the fear of being engulfed in flames. Or maybe you’re concerned about the environmental impact of either of these traditional methods.

If you’re looking for a gentler, greener alternative, it’s time to learn about alkaline hydrolysis — also known as water burial, green cremation, or water cremation.

What is alkaline hydrolysis?
No, it’s not as scary as it sounds.

You’re not being dissolved in acid like in a crime thriller.
You’re not being flushed down the drain, either.
And the process doesn’t pollute water supplies.

Alkaline hydrolysis is a safe, respectful, and environmentally friendly method of final disposal that’s slowly gaining popularity around the world.

Alkaline hydrolysis how it works:

The body is gently placed in a stainless steel container.

Depending on the weight of the deceased, a mixture of water and an alkali (usually potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide) is added.

The container is sealed, heated (usually around 93-150°C or 200-300°F), and gently stirred.

Over several hours, the soft tissue is broken down into a sterile, non-toxic liquid.

The remaining bone fragments are removed, dried, and processed into a fine white powder – just like a traditional cremated body.

The pH of the liquid byproduct is balanced so it can be safely discharged into the wastewater system without causing any harm.

The entire process is monitored by computer automation. Once started, the operator does not need to intervene until it is completed.

A gentler alternative to flame cremation
Alkaline hydrolysis is not only more environmentally friendly, it is also more respectful of the body.

It may sound technical, but in reality, it is a calm, quiet process. The end result? Clean, white ashes returned to the family in an urn.

Our company proudly offers:

Filter bags designed specifically for alkaline hydrolysis systems that capture bone fragments, hair, and other solid residues without clogging or chemical degradation.

Corrosion-resistant filter bags and liners that contain residue during the cycle.

Alkaline-resistant materials and system accessories used by aquaponic facilities, veterinary clinics, and funeral homes.

All of our filtration products are made from durable, high-temperature resistant materials such as Nylon ,PE or PP and  are available in customized micron ratings (6μm, 15μm, 30μm, etc.) to meet specific system needs. Whether you are working with a low-pressure human hydration unit or an efficient pet cremation system, we can help you find the right solution.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Green Goodbyes

While alkaline hydrolysis is not yet universal, it is gaining legal, cultural, and technical acceptance. More families, pet owners, and even eco-conscious funeral directors are exploring this modern, low-impact approach.

In a world where we’re rethinking everything from what we eat to how we travel, perhaps it’s time to rethink how we bury our dead.

Water burial offers more than just environmental benefits. It represents a shift toward dignity, science, and sustainability—even when it comes to death.
